In 1820 a “sampler” marked by “Oreo” was sent to the Church Missionary Society in England. In 1821 this “sampler” arrived in London. What did this sampler look like? Who was “Oreo”?
Enthusiastic and passionate textile and fibre artists are invited to respond to these questions, and produce a textile sampler to include as part of the X-marks exhibition on display in Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi, Waitangi Treaty Grounds from 7 September – 9 December 2018. X-marks is an exhibition of historical and contemporary New Zealand textiles.
